Biography
Dehghani began his career in Tehran, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theatre directing from Tehran University of Art and spent more than a decade contributing to the city’s theatre community. His work in Iran included From the Environs of Milad, Sohrab’s Transgression, Nathan and Tabileth, and Leila. After relocating to the United States in 2018, he earned an MFA in directing from Northwestern University.
At Northwestern, he directed A Moment of Silence, Eurydice, and Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. During the pandemic, he co-founded Grass Studio Theatre and created outdoor performances including Picnic, Story in a Box, and Reportage of a Room.
His U.S. directing credits include English at Goodman Theatre, Guthrie Theater, and Denver Center for the Performing Arts; Selling Kabul at Northlight Theatre; Baba at Amphibian Stage; and the world premiere of The Life You Gave Me at Boise Contemporary Theater. In 2025, he received Princess Grace recognition in theatre.
